This year, more than any other year I feel, the curriculum in my oldest daughter’s school entails a lot about writing, authors, editing and publishing.
Since my daughter knows I’m a writer, reviewer, copy editor and author, she proudly announces it whenever she gets the chance. Hence, her librarian and teachers have issued informal invitations for me to make a special visit to the classroom to talk about writing, editing and publishing. I’m all for it, I think it would be great, and perhaps I will do it. Although, I’m a terrible speaker… I’d much rather go and read them a book or play games.
She’s also going through a little curious, nosy stage. She goes through our mail, sifts through my papers, tries to see what’s on my computer, listens in on phone conversations. I think its kinda cute and funny. We don’t have anything to hide really, so it doesn’t bother me so much.
I get a lot of packages to Eliza Knight at our house. Books for me to review, contest entries for me to judge, letters from editors, returned manuscripts and other writing related things. Naturally, since that’s not my name, and they are definitely my things, the question has come up, “Who is Eliza? Why do people call you that?”
I explained to her that I write romance under another name.
“Why?”
Well, hmm… I suppose it’s because I like my privacy. Also because I write under different genres, I don’t want my readers to get confused.
“So, are you like famous?”
Famous? I never really thought about it. What does famous mean? My answer to her was no, not really, not like a movie star, not like the author of Harry Potter.
She promptly told me she wanted to read my books. I brushed it off. I don’t want her to read my books, she’s only 8! lol And that prompted me to think about writing a YA for her to read and share with her friends and teachers. I’ve started two over the years, but never finished them. I think now is the time to get those started again.
I repeated this conversation to my husband and he encouraged me to try my hand at YA. He also said, that I was kind of famous. What a stroke to the ego! I looked up the definition of famous, because I’m a word nerd like that. The dictionary said, famous meant having a widespread reputation, renowned, celebrated, notable, first-rate, excellent. I’m not sure about a couple of those, but I guess I could say I’m partially famous. I’ve sold over 1000 books. I’m known in a lot of circles, I’ve gotten great reviews and even won a couple awards and writing contests. My history blog gets over 100 hits a day. And if you count Myspace friends, I have over 1000! Lol
So tell me, have you had any similar conversations like this with your kids? What did you say? Will you ever try to write a YA for them?
Oh, and check out my latest cover! Isn’t it gorgeous? Her Captain Dares All the 3rd novella in my Men of the Sea series will release later this year! (I’ll update you on the release date soon!)
Praise for Men of the Sea!
“Her Captain Surrenders is so sexy and hot it ought to set the bedposts on fire. Ms. Knight creates characters that leap from the page, reach deep into our hearts and tug at all the emotions that live there. The reader wonders, are Nathaniel and Juliette ever going to find common ground? Ms. Knight once again weaves her magic into this wonderful story and makes the heart sing. I cannot wait until the next story in the Men of the Sea series comes out.” ~Sal @ Two Lips Reviews
“A wonderfully romantic story. This is not the first book of Ms Knight’s that I have had the pleasure to read and I must admit that it will not be the last. The intoxicating way she pens her captain’s is a refreshing taste and definitely tempting. Ruggedly handsome men born for the sea.
Ladies bred for society. I love the way Ms Knight brings these two different worlds together and crafts love stories that will leave the reader breathless.
*Snaps* Ms Knight on another job well done

Hi Eliza!
Fun post and yes, I’d say you are famous! You’re everyone’s favorite gal.
I know I sure like your blog and enjoy the heck out of your posts. You’re a star in my book! Keep shining, lady!
I think your daughter sounds delightful. How fun to go speak at her school. She has to be over the moon about that! My girl is too young to know what I’m chasing. She does know mommy spends a lot of time on the “puter”. LOL I love how she says that! You should write those YA’s. How many girls out there can say, “My mom wrote this for me.” That’s awesome!! Thanks for making me smile- and I haven’t even had my coffee yet.
Aw, thanks Sarah!
You know you’re famous too! You have an awesome blog that lots of people visit
My 3yo says puter too! Its so cute!
My boys are teenagers, and they know exactly what I write, lol. They don’t tell their friends. I actually started with YA, but it never really clicked with me. I’m an erotic writer through and through!
I’m worried it won’t click too… I didn’t have any problems writing the first few chapters, but after that I was kinda stuck… Wish me luck!

Hi Eliza,
My sons sometimes ask me if they can read my books and I just said that they’re for adults. Like Helen, I’ve tried my hand at YA and it just didn’t click. I didn’t have the same passion for it as I do the steamier stuff.
I LOVE your new cover!! Gorgeous!!!
Thanks Viola! Yeah, my passion is definitely for the steamy stuff… I’ll try to get at least one written for her and see what happens
Cute blog and yes you are famous Eliza. My kids are grown up and read all my books. They are proud of their mom and telling their friends she is famous. Yeah!!! We are all famous happy writers. Now to be as famous as Nora is a different challenge. LOL
Thanks Mona! Oh yes, Nora Roberts status is a whole other bag! I’d be happy with seeing my books at Wal-mart, lol

Hey Eliza! I’d say you were famous. You know we all love you!! And I do think you ought to write that YA novel that’s been inside—-before your girls outgrow them.
Julie
She sat up, staring with her nightsight at the outlines of the men around her. His throat worked to swallow, and a fine sheen of sweat shimmered on his skin. Youre an infuriating man. They had him clean in moments. Frustration and anger buzzed, blurring her vision. Shed dissolved the solid rock and reversed a spell that should have been more permanent. But maybe we could eat first? Im here should you need me, he murmured, folding his legs underneath him. Her body was shaking with sobs before she realized it. What was that swelling feeling deep inside her chest? You havent said please in ages. She froze when his hand closed around her arm just above her elbow. Would you let me go? He wasnt talking to her. Her pussy wept, neglected, but she wouldnt have stopped him for anything. She closed her eyes and yawned. You may be different, but you most certainly belong. His demeanor this night was different. For the rest of the life Ive been given. Because she could not deny him—deny them—any longer.
