Whenever I sit down to write these blogs a number of ideas come through my mind, but I figure nobody cares about the number of diapers I’ve changed in the last three months (837), the movies I watched this past weekend when I should have been writing, but was laid up with a cold (Year One, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, What Happens in Vegas) or the number of times I had to redo the Christmas lights around the railing of my deck because I couldn’t seem to get it just right (6).
But I did think you’d be interested in two things. One: Zumba. Two: Young bloggers.
Zumba, you say? What the heck is Zumba?
It’s my new obsession and has my muse shaking it likes it hot. I’ve always been a gym fanatic, love the gym! But recently when I went back to working out after the baby (and gaining a ridiculous 60 pounds all in the last several months of my pregnancy….mmmm chocoalate…..) I was bored! I hated every minute of the treadmill. I found myself dancing around at home so I had an excuse not to go to the gym. Then I shoved the scaredy cat side of myself in the closet and went to a Zumba class. Never have I had more fun working out!
Zumba’s motto is: Ditch the workout, join the Party! And it is so true! It’s a mixture of salsa and hip-hop dancing. Oh I can hear you now…. Don’t even! I suck at dancing. I’m certifiably the most uncoordinated woman on the planet. We gave our first daughter the middle name Grace hoping she’d have more than me! Have you ever seen Miss Congeniality? When Sandra Bullock walks out looking all hawt, and then falls on her face? Yeah, that’s the type of grace I have-minus the hawt, lol.
On top of that, I’ve been droppin’ it likes it hot so much over the last couple weeks I’ve already lost inches. I’m feeling more energy, the happy endorphins are literally flying through my veins, I’m feeling sexy…. AND the best part, the muse is being nurtured in a good way. She’s rocking and rolling.
Try it!!!!
Okay now onto number 2: Young bloggers.
My daughter loves to write on the computer. She has documents saved on her computer, My Writing. She loves to email people. Very cute. In her school, 3rd graders have a blog! (It’s safe, the teacher has to approve all comments, and runs the blogs himself–no personal info, things like that.)
Can you believe it? Her assignment this week was to do a book review. I am in Heaven! It is so exciting to see her doing things like this since its what I do for a living.
I think it is so important to start nurturing that creative side as early as possible. In today’s day and age, we use electronics, computers, blogs, emails, etc… I’m blogging right now! It’s just another fun thing I can share with my children about my job.
I also admit to being a bit jealous–the students in her class were assigned Alphasmarts! Sweet! I want one!
Since she is my oldest, I might just be totally in the dark. Do all schools do this? I can only relate to when I was in school, and I think we had computer lab once a year, lol. I remember taking typing as a requirement in high school. At any rate, it makes me proud.
What do you think about young bloggers?
I’m going to end this blog today with a joke my daughter told me she told her class: “My mom is an Arthur who writes about King Author.” Pretty good for 8 year old humor eh? lol
Happy writing and get dancing!

Hmmm….I am way self-conscious, so I always dismissed Zumba out of hand. But inches you say? Inches being lost?? Hmmm….
Yes Kris! Inches!!!! I am extremely self-concious! It doesn’t matter because the only person who looks good doing Zumba is the teacher
Plus its fun! I convinced my mom to go with me next week.
And is this teacher the source of your muse’s inspiration?
Well she is hawt Emma! lol
How in the world do you know how many diapers you’ve changed? I could provide an estimate…680 to 720…sometimes two at a time. I’m sure you don’t have to ask.
Congrats on finding something you like to do to stay in shape. I’m still making excuses.
I don’t know about kids and blogging. I know there’s a commercial where a little five year old goes to the bathroom, shuts the door in his dad’s face and pulls out a personal t.v. I have issues with that. Technology can be great, but I think children’s use has to be monitored. If it is, then I say bring it on!
lol, I’ve gone through more than one at a time too! I think babies think its a game, lol. Just a rough estimate based on about how many diapers I change a day and how many days old she is
You might be making excuses, but you lost all your baby weight too woman!
I have major issues with that commericial too! We do computer “time” she’s only allowed on it for a certain time, at a certain time, and its in a family room so she can be monitored. We have lots of conversations about it too. At first my hubby and I were concerned about the blog, I mean anyone in the whole world can read it, but when we realized how closely monitored it was by the teacher, etc… it was a cool idea.
HUGS!
Oh, happy belated three month birthday! It’s so hard to believe they’re that old already!
Just because I lost the weight doesn’t mean I’m in shape. Well aside from my biceps, which get a workout from lifting 14 lb baby.
I’m with you on the biceps!!!

Oh! We have Zumba class at my gym but it costs extra, darn it. I’ve been torturing myself with spinning class instead. That’s a butt-kicking workout, I gotta tell ya. Now I want to check out the Zumba! Congrats to getting energy back and for losing inches. That’s awesome!!!
You gotta check it out!
Our spin teacher is insane! I can here them shouting!!! lol I bow down to you!
I wonder if they make Zumba for a Wii? We’re kind of remote back here in the backwoods of Kentucky but it looks like a lot of fun!
I know they have workout dvds
Hi Eliza!
Fun post! LOL on the Zumba!! OMG- I’d put someone out shakin’ my booty all over the place.
I used to have the juice to dance and make it look good, but kids and 65 pounds have squashed the career option. One of my goals for next year is to lose my “sagging middle.”
I think that’s great your girl is blogging. How cool! I know of a school in my area that disributes Alphasmarts, but it is a GATE school. I’m hoping Santa Baby sees this mama has one on her list! LOL I’ll be naughty, if he’ll be nice and get me one. *wink wink*
LOL!!!!! Sarah you are hysterical! I bet if you tell him that you’ll get more than one alphasmart!
What is a GATE school?
I’m trying to lose the sagging middle too!
Zumba sounds like fun! I love to dance and have several DVD workouts using dance, but it must be a hoot to share the fun with others.
As for your daughter, God bless both of you. Computers have become so much a part of life, the teacher’s guidance can’t be anything but good, giving them both the experience and the warnings that must accompany it.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thank you Pat! They make dvds too
I agree, it is amazing that they can get this experience early.
Too funny, Eliza!
For two alphasmarts, I’d have to maybe bake some cookies. LOL
GATE schools are for gifted learning. Picture child progenys.
Ah, I see!
My dh likes cookies too. Even better if I make him a cake! lol
Late catching up, but now I know what Zumba is! Sounds like you’re having a blast with it. As for your little Miss Blogger, we think we’re so smart keeping up with all this stuff, then the kids come along and blow us away with their easy grasp of new technology. I’ve learned so much from my kids! Happy Holidays, Eliza.
You should try it Pat! Its fun!
Isn’t it amazing??? I learn so much from her everyday! I’m jealous of how fast she does her muliplication tables too, lol
