OH MY, MY MOM’S SEXY ROMANCE NOVEL IS AT WALMART!
My two sons were aware from a relatively young age that their mom fooled around with writing. They even knew as teens that I continued to write long after I’d begun a career in corporate America. And neither seemed to mind when they returned from stints in the military to learn that I’d joined RWA and a local writing group. They thought it was cool that I was taking it seriously and following my dream.
But my first book, Last Resort: Marriage, hit the shelves this summer and although their wives think it’s cool, the guys seem to be having a slight issue with it. Happy for Mom? You bet. Want Mom to sign a book for them? Sure. Plan to read it? Whoa! Not sure at 31 and 33 they are quite prepared to admit that Mom wrote a sexy little romance. They’ve spread the word and even a couple of their buddies showed up at my book signing, yet I sense a little awkwardness.
One daughter-in-law reads romance novels voraciously and she kids my youngest son that his mom not only reads this sexy stuff, but writes it. He’s a pretty good sport and has helped design my webpage, but. . .
I wasn’t sure that my macho husband would handle it any better, but he’s telling the world. He picked me up at DFW Sunday after National in his little red Fiat convertible. He came toward me on the sidewalk waving a copy of Last Resort: Marriage and saying, “Ms. Stone, Ms. Stone. Will you sign my book?”
I still have a silly grin on my face. So, I’d love to hear about the experiences anyone else has had.

Pamela Stone’s Debut Release is a July 09 release from Harlequin American.
Desperate times call for…a quickie wedding!
And desperation is the only reason Charlotte Harrington would even consider marrying local playboy Aaron Brody. Even if he is the most irresistible man she’s ever laid eyes on.
Charlie’s proposition could be a win-win for both of them. Aaron keeps his charter business afloat and the gorgeous, cool-as-ice hotel heiress keeps her grandfather from selling her hotel out from under her. Besides, it’s temporary.
Isn’t it?
It was supposed to be strictly a business arrangement. Falling in love with her husband wasn’t part of the deal. So when the time comes, will Charlie be able to just shake hands with Aaron and part ways forever?
About Pam
As an only child, Pamela spent her summers at her grandparent’s house in the country. She would while away long hot afternoons reading romance or creating her own fantasies and imaginary friends. Today, accompanied by her husband and imaginary friends, she also loves to travel. From Hawaii, to California, to Florida to the Caribbean, if there’s a beach, she’s there. She has combined her romantic nature and love of the ocean to become the author of great beach reads.

Congratulations on your release, Pamela! And that cover is gorgeous!
Thanks Helen. I was pleased with the cover myself. I had no idea what they’d come up with.
Pam
Pamela,
Congratulations on your release!
The story about your husband waving a copy of your book was soooo cute! Supportive husbands are the best, aren’t they?!
I live in a very small town. I worry that my romance writing won’t be received well – this town is also fairly conservative. I’d hate for a parent to refuse to let my kids play with theirs because I write “that stuff” (It’s never happened, and my little town continually surprises me, but I’m a worry wart! What can I say?). So, around town, I keep my writing quiet…
My kids? That’s another story. They are 9 and 7 (I also have a 15 year old, but she’sway too cool for me). My little ones announce to everyone we come in contact with that I’m “writing a book – a romance novel”. They are so proud of me that it brings tears to my eyes and helps me move away from my fear. Of course, they don’t yet understand what it is exactly… :0)
Thanks for joining us today and congratulations again!
Tiffany
Tiffany,
I just moved from a big metroplex to a small town. I’m getting to know people, but my aunt who is from a neighboring very small town is telling the world. Half her church is reading my sexy little romance. Talk about a worry wart. I made her read it first though.

Pamela,
Thanks for coming over and being a MamaWriter today!
I love the story of your husband coming up to you, waving the book, calling out for your signature. It’s terrific! And I also think it’s kinda sweet that your ‘boys’ are flummoxed: supportive, but a bit taken aback.
From one debuting author to another: congrats and enjoy!
Kris,
Thanks, and I’m happy to be here. I continue to get a kick out of my sons. They have been a delight, well at least most of the time. We won’t talk about those teen years, cars, and girls. But at least they think it’s cool.
Pam
Oh, I love that your husband did that to you at the airport! How cool is that for a show of love and support!
You made my day with that one. Congratulations and I live across the pond so will put this on my “send over” list!
Hi Kathleen,
I never thought about a send over list. That’s sort of cool. I have a huge TBR file and since National, it’s only grown.
Thanks for stopping by.
Pam
Hi Pamela,
I’m so happy you joined us today! I think what your hubby did at the airport is fabulous, and since I’ve had a sneak peek of Last Resort:Marriage, I can say without a doubt that it’s a fabulous book!
Hugs,
Renee
Thanks for inviting me, Renee. I hope everyone enjoys the story. It was fun to write.
Pam
Pamela, your book sounds right up my alley. I love stories about marriages of necessity for some reason. Normally, I stick to Blaze, but you’ve got me convinced to buy/try the American Romance line.
Your husband sounds like a sweetheart. My step-father-in-law does stuff like that to me all the time. He sends me emails addressing me by my pen name, which gives me a little thrill and writes fan emails. The funny thing is my story hasn’t even come out yet, but it’s a great reminder to keep writing! My husband gets sneak previews of all my stories, and stalks me if I don’t get him new chapters to read on a timely basis. He’s like a little kid…what happens next? Aren’t men cute?!
Emma,
I continue to get a kick out of men. They fascinate me. Just when you think you have them figured out…
Pam
What a cool story about your husband at the airport! Sounds like he’s a keeper
My kids are young (5 and 3), so they don’t quite “get” it yet, though due to all the historical romance covers laying around (complete with women in flowing gowns), my daughter thinks I write and read books about princesses. In a way, I guess I do
And I’ve been floored by the support of my coworkers. I work in defense, so we’re talking mostly military guys, or retired military. They stalked our local bookstores the week of my release, and I’m pretty sure they had copies in hand even before my mom (though mom has since become the best buzz agent I could ask for!). Sure, sometimes the guys at work tease a little, but mostly they just think it’s cool. Which makes me think they’re cool
Allegra
Welcome to Mamawriters Pam! I love that story about your hubby!!! How cute!
My kids know I write, but not exactly what. My husband on the other hand shouts it to the world! He swears he won’t read it, but he has no problem telling everyone how wonderful it is. After I got back from Nationals, he pulled me out onto the deck with my badge and made me show some of our neighbors, lol.
Good luck with the new release and your future workds!
Eliza,
Funny about your hubby. Mine read the first book I wrote and he did read a couple scenes from this one as he is a scuba diver and I need verification. At least we’re supported.
Pam
Pamela,
Love the story of the request for an autograph from your hubby! That’s precious.
My kids (18 and 20) are both very supportive of my writing, as is my hubby, but then I haven’t written anything “hot” — yet. But both of them have read my current paranormal that has some sex scenes in it without any comment about that. I think it’s good to surprise our kids, help them see us as more than their mom. We have desires and longings and feelings just like they do, after all!
Thanks for sharing your story!
Betty,
I agree. It does help adult kids see us as real people. Girls might get it more than the guys do though. My youngest daughter-in-law is quite excited and supportive. My older one writes and illustrates an internet comic strip so although she isn’t exactly into romance, she supports the creative gene. Mine is not a Blaze, but it is sexy. After all, one of my CPs is a Blaze author, so what do you expect.
Pam
test…test…test
(just trying to figure out why my comments get the “awaiting moderation” flag)
Hey Alegra. I see your comment.
My test appeared, but my actual response to your post disappeared. Grr.
You know, Allegra, in a past life I was a geek, but I worked hard and overcame the habit. Blogging and Facebook type apps are as much a magical mystery to me as to anyone else why sometimes they work and others my comments are gobbled up by some black whole in webland.
Hi Pamela!
I loved your post! It’s kind of funny the way your DIL torments your son. That’s cute! I tease my hubby about his mom borrowing romance novels from me. LOL Now, there is a picture of shocked horror! He may not say it, but his expression says, “Ewww!”
Congrats on the new release! And your hubby sounds like a true hero to go to such lengths to impress you. So sweet!
Smile!,
Sarah
Thanks Sarah,
I was asked before my book came out if I was nervous about people reading it and my answer was YES! I’m fine with my mom and some of my aunts and friends. Yet I work in corporate America mostly with men. And at least three of them have bought copies. Eeeek! And my mother-in-law. Sweet lady, but oh man am I uncomfortable with her reading it. I wasn’t sure how the hubby would deal, but he’s telling the world. Funny guy.
Pam
Congratulations on your new release, Pam. Your family sounds wonderful, even if some of them are a little shy about reading your book. They’ll come around, probably in secret at firstl
Good luck!
Thanks Lynne! I do have a pretty cool family, but just cannot picture any of my macho males reading a romance. But you never know.
Thanks to everyone for stopping by today and making me feel so welcome. It was great!
Pam
Pam! Great post! I LOVE that image of your quiet husband waving your book at the airport! What a sweetie!
SO proud of and happy for you, dear friend and CP and LOVE seeing your beautiful, sexy littl eromance on the shelves this month!
You GO girl. Her’es to many more books on the shelf!
Thanks Juliet. For those of you who don’t know her, Juliet is that Blaze author and CP I mentioned above. She writes as Jillian Burns and has Let It Ride out this past May and just sold two more. Speaking of way to go! Sorry, but I just had to brag on her a little.
Pam
I love the bit about your boys not wanting to read your books. I know mine won’t. I’m a little wiggy about my Dad reading them too.
I can understand that. Although my dad is no longer with us, I was a daddy’s girl. He’d have probably gotten a kick out of it. Now my father-in-law, NO WAY!
Pam,
It doesn’t bother her at all, and she read my first book! I too loved the visual of your dh arriving to pick you up, waving your book in the air and asking for an autograph. What a great guy.
Enjoyed your blog! I’m lucky in that my daughter approves of my writing romance.
Congratulations on your book! I’ll be looking for it.
Jeanmarie
Thanks Jeanmarie,
My DH does surprise me when he ‘surprises’ me. Doesn’t happen often. Great that you daughter supports your writing. I have a 4 year old granddaughter and as adorable as she is, I am attempting to figure out little girls. I mean, she goes in my closet and comes out wearing my shoes. She matches her socks and hair stuff to her outfit. What’s up with that?
