Good morning!!!
I totally dropped the ball…go figure, its summer and I’m pregnant, so naturally my life is in chaos, lol. Today we were supposed to have special guest author Sandy Blair, but I messed up…so she will be visiting with us on Monday, July 20th!!!! Yay!
In the meantime, I thought I’d share a funny story from yesterday.
I came across my daughters playing Barbies…and my youngest had the Ken doll kissing Barbie. I said, “no kissing!”
They started giggling, and my older daughter said, “She saw one of your books and they were kissing.”
More giggling. My reply with a smile, “Kissing is for adults.”
Then promptly turned around, started smirking, and told my dh what had happened. He laughed, then warned me I may want to keep better tabs on my books since our older daughter can now read. But what should I do? My books (hundreds of them) cover bookshelves on all three levels of our house…Where should I put them?
Any funny stories to share? Where do you keep your romance novels?
Cheers!
Eliza

The good news is kids will probably read the first few pages and lose interest. No pictures *g*
The bad news is, come tomorrow, they’ll be teenagers and then the rules change. Mom’s “smut” (my youngest’s designation) becomes a bit more appealing and that’s time for the “remember they call it fiction for a reason” talk.
One daughter is an avid romance reader. The youngest reads more women’s fiction. Heaven forbid she should read Mom’s smut. *g*
I hope so Pat! and I’m not looking forward to that talk!
Eliza, you made me laugh!
I’m glad Helen

Oh, man, Eliza! LOL.
I keep my books beside my bed, and I do tend to ship them out to Share The Love (okay, only 1 shipment–so far!) or the library or Goodwill after awhile, so I don’t have too many on hand. Only a few are keepers.
I agree, I don’t want my son seeing some romance covers. Why? Well . . . as I wrote my really *long* reply, LOL, I decided I’ll use the topic as my post tomorrow, piggybacking on yours. So tune in tomorrow!
So, may I ask why you have a rule of ‘no kissing’ when they play Barbies? is it the ‘kissing is for adults’? I ask only b/c I’m avidly curious about where & why other parents draw lines, being so new at this myself, not b/c I think it’s wrong!
Oh, and my funny story, which I know I’ve told before . . . about when my young son saw the cover flats of THE CONQUEROR . . .
It’s got a bare-chested man holding a sword over his shoulder, a castle in the background. (Great pix, but rather dangerous in real life.)
My son pointed at him & the sword, and said, “That’s a bad guy!”
I looked over in dismay. “Oh, no, sweetie! He’s a very GOOD guy.”
My son looked skeptical, but bowed to my obviously greater vehemence.
Can’t wait to read your post Kris! I agree, Pagan is a very GOOD guy!
Well I guess it was the way she was having them kiss… They were doing it for a very looooonnnnggg time, and with sound effects. Since my hubby and I refrain from making out in front of the girls, I’m guessing she’s also picked up on some of that from tv… Oh and since my kids like their Barbies to always be in some sort of half-dressed state, it was just too much for me, lol
A peck and I would have been fine! And since she’s only 3, I just couldn’t handle it, lol

That’s a funny story! I keep my books on the shelf. Thankfully, my sons have absolutely no desire to pick any of them up, let alone read them.
lol, that is good!!!
My boys are too young to comment on my reading choices, although they do ask who the people are on the covers. I have to keep a careful eye on my youngest, though since he has a habit of ripping pages. I remember when I was a kid, I teased my mother for reading those books with the half naked men and women on the covers. (the ’80′s!) She never hid her books at all. And thank goodness for me! I became hooked with romances as a teenager and now I’m writing them, too!
My kids turn away when kissing comes on TV. So I don’t have to worry about racy book covers. I’m just waiting for the day I catch my oldest (13) reading The Flame and The Flower under the covers with a flashlight like I did when I was her age!
