Have you ever heard of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?  There are certain things we as humans need to survive, and Maslow has 5 tiers.  The largest part of the pyramid, at the bottom, covers our physiological needs like food, air, sleep, shelter, sex and water.  These are our basic needs to survive.  Above that are our safety needs: law, stability, security, order.  In the middle is our need to love and belong—that means family, friendships, romance, and co-workers.  The next level is esteem needs, achievement, responsibility, reputation.  And at the very top is self-actualization, meaning personal growth and fulfillment.

We ride up and down this pyramid throughout our lives.  We aren’t stagnant creatures either.  Once we’ve reached the very top, there is always more to do, more things to achieve, more growth we can do as human beings.

Why am I sharing this with you?  Because I have written a list of my Top Twelve MamaWriter Must Haves, and while doing so I remembered learning about Maslow’s law.  In all aspects of our lives we have to have certain things be a certain way for things to happen.  For most of us, when all is not in alignment we do whatever we have in our power to do, to get it there.  As a mother and a writer, I am constantly working to achieve my daily goals, whether they are big or small.  I consider myself lucky that I am surviving, and my children are alive, happy and thankfully healthy, and my husband is supportive of my career.

And how is all of this possible?  Without further ado, I present to you, The Top Twelve MamaWriter Must Haves (According to Eliza):

 12.  A laptop—for me, being mobile with my work is essential

 11.  Hair ties, sweats and flip-flops

 10.  Pre-made meals

  9.  Ability to survive on less sleep some nights

  8.  Notebooks and pens

  7.  At least 10 Minutes of Peace/Relaxation each day – even if it’s in the shower

  6.  Emergency Children’s Activity Kit – crayons, paper, tape

  5.  Coffee and/or chocolate – preferably both

  4.  Books – for research, craft and pleasure.

  3.  Internet – for research, networking, promoting, and career advancement

  2.  Desire and drive

And the number one thing you need to have as a MamaWriter is:

  1.  A Support System – including other MamaWriters.

You may consider some of the things on my list frivolous and you’re right, I don’t need all twelve things everyday, but it is nice to have them all in my little MamaWriters box to pull out when I do.   They all have their purpose in helping me continue to achieve my goals, and make life a little easier along the way.

Tell me your top twelve.  What must you have to continue being you and succeeding at what you do?

As some of you know I’m having my 2nd ultrasound this morning—hoping to find out the gender this time!  Later today I’ll update this post with the results J  Somehow, I have a feeling my 3rd little angel will cover up its parts just for the fun of it! LOL – UPDATE!  We’re having another girl!!!
