Today MW welcomes writer of sassy and sexy fiction, Malena Lott. Malena’s current release, Dating Da Vinci, is a fabulous story of sexual reawakening and the journey back to one’s self after the loss of a spouse. (By the way, I just finished Dating Da Vinci and I wholeheartedly recommend it!)

Let’s Run Away Together by Malena Lott
As a mom, don’t you sometimes dream of running away? Even for just one night? For those of us who have obsessive Calgon Take Me Away moments, we’re in luck. Thursday, May 7th is National Mom’s Nite Out, so not only do we get to get out and enjoy some food and drinks with other mommies, we’re SUPPOSED TO! It’s like, our civic duty or something.
I love the idea of moms uniting, especially when it’s not at the school. While I myself am a begrudging volunteer at the elementary school, I feel I MUST do a few things per year, even if I whine about it to my hubby before and after. Like, why the HELL did I sign up to make a cobbler for the Oklahoma Land Run day this Friday? I haven’t eaten a cobbler in years, let alone ever made one. Brain, please connect to stem.
Confession: I’m not a with-it mom. I’m embarrassed to admit my 4 year old showed up at school on picture day wearing his CALL ME I’M BETWEEN MOVIES T-shirt and his mop of a head was two months past due for a cut. I told the teachers that I forgot, and they just smiled. They smiled at me the same way the week before when I arrived with the “salty snack” for the Easter party but FORGOT the damn Easter basket filled with eggs for the hunt.
Teacher: Oh, he can use a sack then.
Me: Er, no. A sack for my precious baby?!
Luckily, I live two minutes from the school and scrounged up an Easter basket (spiderwebs hence removed), and had plastic eggs and candy to finish it out. SCORE!
So, yeah, maybe I don’t deserve a Mom of the Year badge, but we all know parenting is tough business and moms should be rewarded beyond one day of the year (Mother’s Day is May 10th and I’m sure I’ll make a nice brunch for everyone!) I LOVE the idea of National Moms Nite Out where businesses can show their love, as they should since the women of the household make nearly 90% of all household decisions. (We only let our husbands THINK they are making the final decision.) ☺

I love the mother of three, wife of one. LOL. Very funny. Nice to meet you! I enjoyed this entry, and am a new believer of mom’s night out!
Actually, this mom gets to go out TONIGHT! I booked a sitter, got tickets to a show, and am shuttling my DH out the door in 3 hrs & 15 minutes! woo to the hoo!
I’m not a with it mom, either – not by any stretch of the imagination. My oldest daughter’s first valentine’s day at preschool – I merely sent her with, um, valentines. Go figure.
She returned home with baskets, and crafted cards, sacks full of candy — and her classmates got – their card. And, even though I KNOW better now, I still more than likely won’t do better than sitting her down with some glue, glitter, scissors, and construction paper and let HER put something together for everyone. (she’s better than I at crafting at the age of 5!! LOL)
Anyway, thanks for the tip. We’ll be out in force on May 7th here in Southern California!
I can’t wait to read your book! love the cover!

Ashley,
Valentine’s Day may as well be renamed Mama Craft Day for all it requires. At the church kids day out where my lil guy goes, one mom went so far as to stamp and send her dot’s black and white photo on each personalized card PLUS give a gift to each child. I admire that but could never pull it off myself!
Well I just took an interesting side trip to the places you had linked, I had to smack myself to stop it!!
Thanks for checking them out Mary!
very pretty cover on the book and an intriguing premise. sounds like a great read, i’ll keep my eyes open. as for mom’s night out – great idea, in theory! tell my overly attached toddler (who can tolerate separation less and less as the day goes on) about why it’s neccesarry! one of these years I’ll make it…
Maya,
I remember those days! Hang in there. My 4 year old just got back from a week away with his grandma to visit relatives in California & go to Disney and I was the one who had separation anxiety! LOL.
I’m looking forward to Dating DaVinci. It sounds like a great read and the cover is incredibly cute!
Clare,
Thanks so much! I’m pitching DD to a film agent this weekend. Fingers crossed for me! Have a great week.

Hi Malena,
Love this post! That’s funny you mention school pictures. My sons brought theirs home today. You know, the ones where you don’t have to prepay and they send home several sheets to make you feel guilty if you send any back. Anway, they look adorable in their old t-shirts and moppy hair. I call it “real life” photos. lol!
Your book sounds like so much fun. I’m going to have to get it!
